Professional Experience

Dr. Flaherty was an Associate Professor of Political Science at Southern Illinois University for 6 years.  She has also taught Political Science at Duke University and Randolph-Macon College.

Research

Dr. Flaherty’s research centers on groups marginalized from political power.  Most of her research and publications are about American Indian politics and sovereignty. She has also published on gaming, the voluntary desegregation of women’s organizations, and the use of hip-hop as a tool for social justice.
