When Cristopher Algarra was searching for graduate program in mechanical engineering, he admired the way Merrimack College designed its program from both a technical and non-technical stand point.
He wanted a strong technical curriculum along with considerable faculty support - both of which he found through the Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering program at Merrimack College.
“This program has offered me the ability to see mechanical engineering in a variety of ways,” said Cristopher. “From the very first course, I feel like I have learned something new every day. The professors also use specific software programs that help me to create new things with wider precision. Most importantly, I’m really enjoying each course.”
As an international student native to Venezuela, it was also important for Cristopher to feel comfortable in his new environment. “My interactions with professors have been something really important in this process. From my first day, they’ve been able to help me with all my doubts at any time. They always find a way to clarify any concerns I may have on any topic.”
An extremely goal-oriented individual, Cristopher aims to absorb as much knowledge as possible while on the Merrimack campus - even concerning his language and communication skills.
“This program has offered me the opportunity to learn about my field, while improving my English skills. I have found so much help along the way at Merrimack College.”
From a career standpoint, Cristopher – who would like to ultimately earn his doctorate in mechanical engineering design – believes the Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering program at Merrimack will take him to the next step of his future profession.
“This program will change my career 360 (180) degrees,” said Cristopher. “My experience at Merrimack in mechanical engineering design has opened a new window with different opportunities, and has greatly changed my personal and professional point-of-view. This has been one of the most challenging goals I have set up in my life, but now I am confident that I will reach my goal.”
Cristopher is now an instructor at Middlesex Community College.
