Profile

Dean Isabelle D. Cherney joined Merrimack from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, where she last served as the associate dean of the graduate school and a professor of psychology. She is the founding director of the school’s innovative and nationally known Ed.D. and master’s programs in interdisciplinary leadership, and its undergraduate honors program.

Cherney has received numerous teaching and advising awards, including the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching’s Nebraska Professor of the Year, in 2007. She is internationally renown for her research on the development of cognitive and social-cognitive gender differences, children’s rights and her many articles on the scholarship of teaching and learning. She has presented at more than 130 conferences and published dozens of articles with undergraduate co-authors. 

A native of Switzerland, Cherney is fluent in several languages and has visited 32 countries on five continents as well as 48 U.S. states.
