After raising three children into successful young adults, Robin Brooks decided it was time to finally invest in herself. After receiving her associates degree from North Shore Community College, she made the goal of completing her bachelor’s degree a priority.
As the Early Head Start Director at Community Day in Lawrence, Mass., Robin is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Child, Family and Community Studies with a concentration in Early Childhood Leadership and Administration. This will further prepare her to be in a leadership role in childcare and early childhood settings with an emphasis on organizational leadership issues and curricular and instructional practices in the early childhood field.
“I want to support family care educators, and families with children, and I want to make a difference in the way teachers and educators support children in the classroom and in family child care,” says Robin.
As a busy working professional, Robin says she finds comfort in having a predictable course schedule that works with her demanding life.
“I know that Tuesdays, Thursdays and every other Saturday are my commitment, and that evening classes are best for me because I work full-time,” says Robin. “I also have after work commitments such as parent training, policy council and board meetings, so having the option of taking classes two nights a week leaves the other evenings open to spend time with family and attend other important events.”
Looking forward to her graduation in May 2017, Robin has a long term goal of working toward a master’s degree so that she can ultimately teach early education part-time at a local college.
