Kayla J Bynum

Kayla J. Bynum is receving her M.Ed. in Community Engagement in the School of Education and Social Policy. Through the program, she works as the Student and Family Engagement Fellow at the Family Resource Center of Lawrence Public Schools in Lawrence, MA. Prior to arriving to Merrimack College, Kayla studied Sociology and Criminology at Eastern Connecticut State University. After receiving her Bachelor’s degree in 2013, Kayla went on to become a Direct Care Counselor for the Wheeler Clinic and the Assistant Director of the African American Cultural Center at the University of Connecticut. Kayla is currently a resident of Hartford, CT, her home for the past 17 years. She enjoys writing poetry and music, reading, painting, and supporting her community. Once Kayla graduates from the Community Engagement Program, she hopes to work with her community to develop and grow strong community-based partnerships, and family and school engagement practices. She hopes that one day she will be able to help create a Family Resource Center for the City of Hartford and their public school system. Until then, she has dedicated much of studying to understanding how to best support and engage marginalized communities. Contact Kayla at:
