Grading Policies

Your grade will be calculated based on homework assignments, two midterms, a final exam, and your in-class participation. The distribution will be something like this (subject to change):

Weekly Homeworks 45%
Weekly Labs 20%
Midterm 15%
Final Exam 20%

Note the following details:

The homeworks and the exams are graded out of 100 points.

To discuss a grade with me, you must make an appointment with me within 48 hours of receiving the graded work. After that time, the grade is final.

Late Assignments

Assignment deadline dates are firm. Homework and lab assignments are due at the beginning of class on the date specifed. Assignments will be discussed in class and will not be accepted after an in-class discussion.

This is not to say that I am unaware that you have other classes outside of this one. If you come to me 48 hours before a deadline with a conflict, we can discuss the possibility of an extension. Plan ahead. These will be granted at my discretion only.

Absences

If you must be absent from lecture for any reason, you must have any work that is due at that lecture meeting turned in prior to the start of lecture.

Extensions do not apply to exams. If you are absent on a day when an exam is given, unless it is an extraordinary circumstance, the exam cannot be made up.

Exceptions to these rules will only be made for serious illness or personal emergencies, and these must be discussed with me as early as possible. If you must be absent from campus due to a personal or family situation, and this will interfere with a course deadline, this must be discussed with the Dean's Office.
