GRADING

Your grade will be calculated based on homeworks, in-class assignments, three exams, and your in-class participation. The distribution is:

Note these details:

• Regular project assignments will develop your own custom database over the semester, complete with a web-based user interface.
  
  
• Labs will involve pen-and-paper theory exercises completed sometimes as a group and sometimes individually. Additional independent work may be assigned for completion on your own for credit or extra credit.
  
  
• All programming must adhere to the Programming Style Rules for my courses.
  

Note also these policies:

• To discuss a grade with me, make an appointment within 48 hours after receiving the graded work. After that time, the grade is final.
  
  
• Assignment deadline dates are firm. Homework and lab assignments must be submitted at the beginning of class on the due date.
  
  
• Proper classroom behavior can help or hurt you. Respecting your classmates and the professor, and participating in class in a positive way by asking and answering questions, may help your grade to a higher level if you are on the edge. A lack of respect for others in the room, using computers when attention should be focused up front, or using cellphones in class may have a negative effect on the final grade.

Regarding extensions:

I am not unaware that you have other classes outside of this one. If you come to me 48 hours before a deadline with a conflict, we can discuss the possibility of an extension. Plan ahead. These will be granted at my discretion only.

Extensions do not apply to any work performed in class. If you are absent on a day when something is done in class, unless it is an extraordinary circumstance, it cannot be made up. Allowances will be made for serious illnesses and emergencies only; speak with me first before assuming you qualify for one of those two categories!

ABSENCES

Attendance to every class meeting is a responsibility you must take seriously. If you must be absent from lecture for any reason, you must have any work that is due at that lecture meeting turned in prior to the start of lecture. You are responsible for obtaining notes from any class you miss. After reviewing the notes, you may make an appointment with me to discuss what you still do not understand.
