Final steel to go up
The Volpe Athletic Center Expansion hit some milestones this week at Merrimack College. The steel erectors are almost finished with the final structure which will house the team rooms, sports medicine and strength training facilities. Block walls were constructed in the new rink for locker rooms and the lower roofs were loaded with insulation and rubber to get the building water tight. A crew stayed late into the night on Wednesday to finish the first slab placement which came out great. Now that the concrete floor is in, a demolition crew can start removing block and opening up the wall of the existing rink to create the new box seats. On Friday, the construction team prepared for the hockey game vs. BU by finishing the utility work and paving Cullen Ave.
