January Freeze
The week started on Sunday when Pro Con came in Sunday afternoon to fix fencing that had fallen over in the high winds. At the Residence Project, roofing and the window install continued on building 1B while the framers installed the 2nd floor joists on building 2. A second framing crew was brought in to install the first floor walls for building 1A. The roofing subcontractor couldn’t work as the asphalt shingles would shatter when nailed due to such low temperatures. MEP (mechanical, electrical and plumbing) contractors continued their rough in work in both 1B and 1C. Students will be happy to learn that the site work contractor worked through below zero temperatures to finish drainage and install a temporary walkway in front of Hamel Health to the Sakowich Center. The foundation for the final building was laid out Friday as well.

The cold didn’t stop work at the ice rink this week either. Two slab placements happened this week in below zero temperatures. The colored concrete floor for the new entrance/lobby was placed on Thursday and concrete finishing operations went though the night, finishing up at around 1:00PM Friday afternoon. The roofers (rubber not asphalt) and mechanical contractors braved the cold and wind on the roof this week to continue their work. The masonry walls of the Zamboni room are nearly complete, as well as several locker rooms. The site contractor finished the drainage along the ball fields, and the new weight training/sports medicine addition was tented in and ready for heat.
