Work-site crews prepare for Nemo
A major clean up happened on Thursday to prepare for what may be record amounts of snow over the weekend. Access to the sites has been cleared, ready for plowing, and loose materials have been organized and stacked so as not to be lost in two feet of snow. The site crew at the Residences Project completed their work on Walsh Way. The electricians began wiring Building 1B this week and the drywall contractor was brought in at the end of the week to start closing up the ceilings. The masons also got off to a good start this week, laying brick on the exterior walls of Building 1B. The roofers and window installers dominated Building 1C while the roof trusses and plywood went on building 2. Building 1A grew another floor this week and the foundation walls are almost complete for the last building. This flow of work through the buildings will keep contractors busy for months to come.
At the Volpe Expansion Project, more areas are opening up for work as underground plumbing/electrical finishes and slabs get placed. Now that the concrete has cured from the first slab placements, the masons have begun laying block walls for the stairwell to the new view boxes and interior bathroom walls. This week the masons also completed and uncovered a large section of brick on the exterior of the new ice rink, which can be seen from Cullen Ave. The slab was placed for the locker rooms/mezzanine area along side the new rink and walls will begin going up there next week. Over at the new team rooms and sports medicine area the site contractor has been working with the plumbers/electricians on underground work and preparing the grade to receive a slab next week. The roofers have moved on to this area as well.
