Work picks up inside the construction
At the Volpe Expansion Project, work continued at what will become the new entrance to the Volpe Athletic Center with block walls going up to form the new Zamboni room. Also in that area, the new Zamboni exit was built in the existing rink and framers built the new bathroom walls and concession area (pictured below). This work has allowed plumbers, electricians and the mechanical contractor to begin work in this area. All of the locker room separation walls were built along the new rink this week as well. Over at the sports medicine and strength training area, 12,000 square feet of floor space was prepped with insulation and vapor barrier to receive a concrete slab next Tuesday while the roof system was put down. Also in that area, the site contractor continues to work with electricians and plumbers on underground utilities for future slab placements.
Down the road at the Student Residences Project, 80 people are on site, working to meet the fast paced schedule. The electricians and mechanical contractors worked hard this week in Building 1B, completing their rough work. Rough inspections are scheduled for next week in Building 1B, which will then have interior walls, insulated and hung with drywall. On the exterior of Building 1B, brick was laid this week and doorframes were installed. The roof and window installation was completed on Building 1C this week while the framers completed roof sheathing on Building 2. Building 1A had its roof trusses placed on Thursday and roof sheathing has now begun. The site contractor continued working on the on-site drainage and insulated the foundation for Building 3.
