Co-operative Education & Internships

Merrimack’s Graduate Cooperative Education/Internship program provides students with the opportunity to gain field experience within a company or organization. The benefits of a co-op and internship could include:

  • Gaining valuable work experience in your field of interest and getting paid while doing it
  • Increase your odds to gain post graduate employment
  • Build confidence and gain valuable skills
  • Network!! Network!! Network!!

Co-operative Education

The Cooperative Education Program at Merrimack College is offered to all Masters Students; it lets students explore a career of interest while also gaining hands-on experience, making students more desirable to future employers. Working in a paid career-related position can bring added confidence, valuable contacts, and marketable skills that will help students pursue their long-term goals.

In addition, co-op students find that their work experience enhances their education, enabling them to integrate classroom theory with real-world practicalities.

Internships

Internships provide students with flexible and varied ways to gain valuable on-the-job experience related to career interests. Internships can be paid or unpaid, take place during summers, school semesters or vacation breaks, and cover a range of time commitments.

An internship can easily meet the need to learn about a specific career field while allowing a student to apply and enhance skills at the same time. Unpaid internships can be especially well suited for exploring fields such as advertising, government, and work in non-profit agencies.

By expanding their network of professional contacts, students who work as interns gain a competitive edge in the job market. An internship experience is also a great way to demonstrate commitment to a professional career when applying to graduate school.

For assistance in finding an internship or co-op opportunity, students should make an appointment with the Graduate School Career Advisor in the O’Brien Center for Student Success, by calling 978-837-5480 or stopping by. We are located on the second floor of the Sakowich Student Center
