Cooperative Education & Internships

The Cooperative Education Program at Merrimack College – offered to all majors - lets you explore a career that interests you while also gaining hands-on experience that will make you more desirable to future employers. Working in a paid career-related job during your college years can bring added confidence, valuable contacts, and marketable skills that will help you pursue your long-term goals.

In addition, co-op students find that their work experience enhances their education, enabling them to integrate classroom theory with real-world practicalities. Working with a co-op coordinator, you will also learn job preparation skills—including resume writing and interview techniques—as part of the program.

About Merrimack’s Cooperative Education Program

Our program, the second established in New England, was founded more than 35 years ago.  Students in all divisions can participate. For eligible liberal arts and sciences students, we offer a four-year program, while eligible students in business or science & engineering can opt for our five-year program.  You can join the co-op program in the fall or spring semester.  We maintain relationships with local, regional, national, and international participating companies and organizations in a wide range of fields—and we support students who develop their own co-op job opportunities.

Advantages of Internships and Co-Op Go Beyond Experience

Working a co-op job also provides financial assistance to all students regardless of family income or other financial criteria. Typical wages range from $10-$20/hour, and you may be entitled to vacation days, bonuses, and travel benefits.

The value of a co-op job, or an internship, is that it enables you to test your interests, talents and skills in different occupations and find out more about yourself before you graduate.
