Position Overview: The Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice is seeking adjunct instructors to teach undergraduate sections of CRM1000: Introduction to Criminology. The Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice serves over 200 majors and minors. The criminology program provides students with an understanding of crime that recognizes the complex relationship between society and its members. The Introduction to Criminology class is the first required class for the major. The class focuses on the degree to which people’s lives are significantly influenced by broader socio-cultural, political-economic, and historical forces. A goal of this class is to help students cultivate critical thinking and informed analysis about crime. Introduction to Criminology examines the causes of crime and the solutions and policies in place to deter crime. The overall objective of the course is to examine crime and punishment within the context of the society and culture that surrounds it. These topics are connected to inequalities of race, class, gender, sexuality, religion, and region, all of which will be key concerns throughout this course.
Qualifications: Teaching experience and a PhD is preferred. Master’s degree is required. ABDs are encouraged to apply.
