Position Overview: The Department of Communication and Media invites applications to teach one to two Public Communication courses for the spring 2020 semester.
Qualifications: MA or PhD in Communication, with college-level teaching experience.
Adjuncts should be available to teach one to two courses meeting on either Mondays and Wednesdays OR Tuesdays and Thursdays. The available times are as follows: Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:00-6:15pm and/or 6:30-7:45pm; Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00-5:15, 5:30-6:45 and/or 7:00-8:15. There is some flexibility in these time blocks, but all will be late afternoon/evening and include at least 2.5 hours of weekly instruction.
The spring 2020 semester starts on January 16th and runs through May 8th (which includes the mandatory finals exam period).
Public Communication Overview: This course focuses on the concepts and practices associated with effective public communication. A central aspect of this course entails the mastering of public speaking through the process of researching, preparing, and delivering presentations in a variety of formats (e.g., informative, persuasive, and impromptu). The classroom is a laboratory in which to develop the skills needed for effective public communication. In addition, students will also analyze public speaking events as a means of developing a critical understanding of the public communication process.
This 4-credit course primarily serves new Communication and Media majors and minors. We anticipate enrollment from undeclared students as well.
