Position Overview: The School of Health Sciences at Merrimack College is seeking applicants for the position of Adjunct lecturer to teach spring courses for the Masters of Exercise and Sport Sciences as well as the undergraduate Public Health program.
Global Public Health**
A study of the biological, socioeconomic and environmental contributors to health and disease in populations around the world. Students will investigate the determinants of health, how health status is measured, and will review the burden of disease, risk factors and approaches to global cooperation to address health problems within and between nations for successful interventions. Specific issues underlying strategies and organization for health care delivery and health services will be discussed and linked to community service projects that aim to develop social responsibility through civic engagement and humanitarian activities.
A study of nutrition as it relates to optimum performance for sport and health. Nutrient needs (i.e. based on measured RMR), sources, functions and interactions are reviewed according to the latest scientific findings. Principles of body conditioning (BODPOD, skinfold etc.) are emphasized with attention to diet and lifestyle practices that promote health and decrease risks of nutrition related diseases.
(**) Master’s degree in related discipline, Ph.D. preferred. College teaching experience preferred, although related work experience may be considered.
Spring Class schedule: Classes start January 16th – May 8th , 2020. Class start times are 4 p.m. and later.
