Position Overview:  The Assistant Director reports to the Director of Accessibility Services and works in close collaboration with the Accessibility Services staff and the staff of Academic Success, the faculty, and campus colleagues. The Assistant Director will support the management of all aspects of the office and services provided to students with documented disabilities seeking accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act and other Federal and State laws and regulations pertaining to students with disabilities. This position will focus on: coordinating accommodations for medical parking, foreign language substitution, and dietary needs; maintaining a coaching caseload of registered students (in particular, nontraditional students and neurodiverse students); collaborating with the Activate Program for neurodiverse students; overseeing office records and reports; and providing campus-wide training opportunities. This person will also supervise a part-time Accommodation Assistant. The position includes additional tasks related to the general office flow. This position is able to step into the Director role when deemed necessary. 


  • Key contact for coordinating accommodations for medical parking, foreign language substitution, and dietary needs and working with campus connections in these areas.

  • Maintain a coaching caseload of registered students by advising and counseling, including organization/study skills, advocacy, family contact, record-keeping, and referrals needed for academic success; in particular, caseload will consist of nontraditional students and neurodiverse students; will also have role in Activate Program which supports neurodiverse students beyond 1-1 coaching.

  • Responsible for record-keeping and reporting on campus-wide statistics and sustain partnerships with key constituents on campus to continue to increase the overall accessibility of physical spaces, technologies, universal design, and curriculum. 

  • Plan, implement, and coordinate the education of student leaders and the faculty and the college community at large with an effective understanding of the policies and procedures of the College’s academic services for students with disabilities. 

  • Review documentation for the purposes of determining appropriate, reasonable accommodations; conduct intake meetings, assist in coordinating accommodations between the faculty, student, and the office including helping with the Testing Center and assistive technology demands.

  • Supervise part-time Accommodation Assistant, and graduate and undergraduate student workers. 

  • Support incoming and newly admitted students and their families’ concerns, meet with and communicate with outside agencies when necessary. Participate in new student orientation and other programs as needed.

  • Oversee student groups as determined by interest and specialty areas. 

  • In Director’s absence will be able maintain all aspects of the workflow of the office. Will work closely with Director on office long-term strategizing and development of projects and tasks. 

  • Other tasks as determined by the Director and the Vice-President of Student Success and Academic Support.


  • Master’s degree and professional experience in a field relevant to the delivery of support services to disabled students. 

  • 3-5 years of previous experience working in Disability/Accessibility services at the college level.

  • Experience delivering academic support to college level students is preferred.

  • A demonstrated ability to identify disabilities affecting college-age students with knowledge and experience in interpreting diagnostic assessments for the purpose of determining appropriate accommodations. 

  • Experience working with neurodiverse students, students with mobility and sensory conditions,  experience with assistive technology and a Testing Center is preferred.

  • The Assistant Director must possess a professional working knowledge of the disabilities affecting college-age students along with knowledge and experience in diagnostic assessments for the purpose of determining appropriate accommodations.

  • Must possess a solid level of knowledge of campus department partners for consultation and referrals and of academic curriculum to give general academic advice and make referrals.

  • Must possess excellent human relations, problem-solving, accountability, and excellent written, oral, and technological communication skills.

  • Must possess a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a small team and progressively larger circles of care.

  • Must possess ability to be flexible with fluid, uncertain times in an expanding, ever-developing institution.
