The Girard School of Business at Merrimack College seeks to fill the position of Assistant Professor (tenure-track) or Assistant Professor of Practice (non-tenure track), starting fall 2020.
The successful candidate will teach undergraduate core courses, specialized electives, and possibly graduate level courses in the Sport Management area. Applicants must show evidence of, or potential for, excellence in teaching; potential to enhance the internship and job opportunities for students through one’s own industry experience and/or professional networks; and commitment to service. Tenure track candidates must also demonstrate strong potential for success in publishing articles in reputable academic journals.
The Girard School of Business has approximately 1,200 undergraduate and graduate students and offers a BS degree with ten concentrations, MS degrees in Management and Accounting, as well as an online MS degree in Business Analytics. Our MS in Management programs was ranked 8th in the TFE Times 2018 list of best programs nationally. The implementation in 2011, and revision in 2016, of the College’s ten-year strategic plan, the Agenda for Distinction, has led to renewed energy and sense of community, combined with growth of our faculty, and student body. The Sport Management Program started in 2010 with approximately 50 students and now has more than 170 undergraduate majors. The program also provides various internship experiences for students to get real-world industry experience at sports institutions in the greater Boston area.
We are looking for someone with significant sport industry experience, as well as academic qualifications, to (1) teach courses in the candidate’s area of specialization, (2) mentor students seeking internship and job placement, and (3) foster relationships with sport and related organizations for the benefit of students’ future careers.
Required Qualifications: Ph.D. or MBA from an accredited university expected prior to appointment. A strong record of, and continuing potential for, quality teaching (as well as scholarly research if hired for a tenure-track position). Significant experience in the sport industry with a strong network.
