Assistant/Associate Professor of Chemistry (Physical Chemistry)

Position Overview: The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Merrimack College invites candidates to apply for a tenure-track position in physical chemistry at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. Our American Chemical Society-approved department currently offers majors in Chemistry (B.S.) and Biochemistry (B.S. and B.A.), jointly offers a minor in Forensic Science with the Criminology department, and provides courses for other majors offered at the college. The successful faculty hire will be able to contribute to the development of new programs and support the growth of our department courses and majors. Teaching responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, lecture and laboratory courses in physical chemistry (thermodynamics, kinetics, and quantum mechanics), courses in the general chemistry sequence, and advanced courses. Our department has modern instrumentation including NMR, IR, UV-vis, and fluorescence spectrometers, an ESI-ion trap LC-MS, a GC-MS, and an ICP-MS.

Responsibilities: Responsibilities of the tenure-track faculty member will include teaching introductory and upper level courses in the department, building an active research program involving undergraduate research students, and performing service to the college community.

Qualifications: Candidates must have a Ph.D. in physical chemistry and postdoctoral or equivalent experience is desirable. Preferred candidates will have expertise in spectroscopy and/or mass spectrometry. Permanent US work authorization and/or US Citizenship is required.
