The O’Brien Center for Career Development seeks dynamic candidates for The Director for Employer Relations & Engagement. This role will develop and deliver a comprehensive and integrated strategy for employer relations and engagement to generate internships, coops, and post-graduation jobs for our students. The Director is charged with the development and execution of a high-impact, intentional student employment experience for Merrimack College students. The Director will oversee the execution of the employer-student recruiting function and oversee day-to-day operations to provide employers top-of-the-line service and collaborate cross-functionally to execute proposed and existing initiatives to meet strategic goals. The Director for Employer Relations & Engagement will be an innovative, self-directed professional leader who is comfortable with technology and has a commitment and passion for learning and student success.

The position requires a commitment to and experience with diversity, equity, and inclusion, cultural competency, and the ability to relate to and communicate effectively with students, staff, and faculty, representing diverse identities, communities, and experiences.

Expand employer relations and partnership development:

  • Develop and implement a data-driven engagement strategy to pursue partnerships with employers who are hiring students from the majors offered at Merrimack College and that leverages alumni already employed at current and target employer partners.
  • Develop and implement an employer engagement strategy that focuses on the needs of employers for current jobs and jobs of the future, with a strong focus on the development of skills for those jobs. Collaborate with the Associate Vice President and the Assistant VP of Career Advising to implement relevant and requested skills development into career readiness products.
  • Develop, implement, and oversee the maintenance of a service strategy to provide a comprehensive employer experience, including strategies to increase efficiency and automate the employer experience. Monitor the flow of information through the office, to students and employers to identify ways to capture, manage, and use information more efficiently.
  • Establish a strategy for utilizing the web and social media for engagement with employers, including the development of content, communication plan, and coordination with partners across campus.

Provide strong leadership and direct oversight, guidance, and support for the O’Brien Center employer relations team:

  • Lead and oversee shared objectives, policies, procedures, and projects to ensure that the team is working toward common objectives.
  • Hold regular meetings with staff, review budgets and projections, and engage in strategic planning for the future.

Develop a comprehensive internship and co-op program with employers:

  • Establish and expand upon partnerships with employers to support internship and coop placement for students.
  • Develop, recommend, and implement policies, guidelines, and procedures to ensure consistency and equity of access to internships and co-ops. Refine and implement application, hiring, and posting policies to support employer needs.
  • Oversee the organization of a recruiting calendar to ensure the Center is prepared for each recruiting cycle and can connect employers with students when they are ready to hire.

Expand and redefine employer-student connection strategy:

  • Expand, redefine and oversee the execution of an innovative, engaging and flexible on-campus and online employer student-connection strategy.
  • Continuously evaluate and adapt program employer-student connection possibilities as needs evolve and change, using technology solutions and data to make adjustments and develop new ways to engage and support additional employers and students.
  • Oversee the organization of a recruiting calendar to ensure the Center is prepared for each recruiting cycle and can connect employers with students when they are ready to hire.
  • Establish and implement procedures and guidelines for employers for employer/student connection programs, to ensure high-quality interactions that reflect the needs and expectations of both groups.

Qualifications:

  • Strong sales, business development, or relationship management experience, including a demonstrated ability to lead and manage multiple projects with a broad range of internal and external constituents simultaneously.
  • Master’s degree in Higher Education, Business Administration, or a closely related field preferred.
  • Minimum of five years previous experience in one or more of the following: career services, recruitment, advising, student recruitment/retention, related student services, sales, customer service, and project/program management.
  • Candidates will also be considered who have a Bachelor’s degree in a closely related field AND a minimum of seven years previous experience.
  • Ability to understand and communicate the needs of employer partners to inform professional development and skill-building initiatives on campus.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and forge effective working relationships with various departments and groups across campus.
  • Ability to perform in a fast-paced environment, juggle multiple priorities and manage ambiguity; quick learner, sharp attention to detail, excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Creative and innovative mindset to develop opportunities for pursuing an effective strategy to serve an ever-evolving student and employer population.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to be personable yet persistent.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Technical aptitude and demonstrated ability to utilize multiple technology sources including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Google Mail, Calendar, Drive, and Meet; Zoom; Microsoft and Apple devices; Canvas or other LMS; Social media; Statistical analysis and/or data visualization tools are a plus.

Unless otherwise stated above, this is an on-campus position. This is not a remote or hybrid position as employees are essential in order to provide a fully on-campus, residential college experience for our students and the community.
