Position Overview:  The Director of Graduate Academic Affairs will support and advance the College’s graduate education initiatives by focusing on immediate and long term goals required to take Merrimack’s graduate programs to the next level. This includes attention to managing the daily oversight of graduate related tasks in academic affairs. The director will be responsible for promoting and supporting graduate-specific program development, graduate-level research, and graduate policy development. The director will play an important role in the administration of the Graduate Academic Board and the Graduate Council  Moreover, s/he will work closely with an increasingly diverse community of faculty, staff and administrators by being a liaison and advocate for graduate education.


  • Assist the Vice Provost in the implementation of strategic initiatives for Graduate Studies while managing the daily oversight of graduate-related tasks in academic affairs

  • Work closely with the Vice Provost, Academic Deans and Program Directors in the design and implementation of initiatives relating to graduate-specific program development and professional development, including online initiatives

  • Work closely with the Vice Provost, Academic Deans, and the Graduate Academic Board to manage administrative processes associated with probation and dismissal procedures

  • Serve as a support to the Academic Deans and graduate program directors as they complete the program review process for their programs

  • Serve as liaison with graduate advisors, department chairs, program coordinators, and other administrative offices to foster communication among constituents regarding Graduate Studies

  • Work closely with admissions and student services to design and implement orientations and open houses that highlight the academic accomplishments of programs

  • Coordinate events with Schools, Vice Provost and Associate Provost to highlight faculty and graduate student research accomplishments  

  • Represent Graduate Studies on college-wide committees, including the Graduate Experience Committee

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with various constituents

  • Good sense of humor and ability to change direction quickly

  • Ability to be detail-oriented and manage multiple projects at once

  • Excellent Skills in Microsoft Office with particular expertise in Excel
