Position Overview:  The Field Placement Coordinator in the School of Education and Social Policy (SESP) at Merrimack College collaborates with the Director of Field Placement, Teacher Education in anticipating and responding to changing needs of the rapidly expanding Field Placement Office.. The Coordinator will oversee the placement of undergraduate and graduate students pursuing licensure, and the state licensure process, in collaboration with program faculty and staff. The ideal candidate will have experience working with licensure standards, and collaborating with school building leaders and the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). Responsibilities will be undertaken collaboratively with the department chair, director of field placement, program directors, and other faculty as well as department administrative staff and will include, but are not limited to:

Working with the Director of Field Placement, the Field Placement Coordinator will collaborate on:

  • Assisting Director in designing evolving structure, policies and department initiatives.

  • Representing the Field Placement Office in local, state, regional, and national conferences and events related to field education.

  • Participate in weekly Field Placement Office meetings; maintain database of all students in field 

  • Managing student placement information 

  • Training and supervision of Supervising Practitioners and Program Supervisors in the CAP process.

  • Overseeing federal and state reporting requirements for teacher education programs.

  • Monitoring affiliation agreements

  • Conducting periodic site visits to schools

Field Placement Process for Licensure students:

  • Collaborate with and consult with placement team on general issues related to placements and placement process as well as individual student concerns.

  • Work with licensure students in planning field placements in their local geographic area

  • Facilitate field seminars

  • Conduct outreach to schools to identify placements

  • Consult on, review, and approve placement sites

  • Placement of graduate students for pre-practicum and practicum experiences.

  • Assist students in the endorsement/licensing process.

  • Maintain key student and organizational files required by the state of Massachusetts.

  • Facilitate student orientation/information sessions on Teacher Education Program requirements

Faculty and Student Support and Intervention:

  • Collaborate with program directors to address the needs of their students in the field

  • Collaborate with academic advising team to address academic issues as they relate to field placement.

  • Conduct workshops and advise students on the pre-practicum, Candidate Assessment of Performance (CAP), and add license processes, as needed. 

  • Train faculty and staff on DESE policies and updates to those policies.

M.A. or M.Ed. degree, experience as a teacher or administrator in K-12 schools, teaching and/or administrative experience in higher education, advising experience, and experience with the Candidate Assessment of Performance process is preferred. 1-3 years professional experience required. Counseling/Advising experience a plus.

  • Experience with google suite of tools (Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc)

  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills

  • Ability to multi-task
