Position Overview

The Department of Psychology at Merrimack College invites applications for a non-tenure-track, open-ended, Assistant Professor of Practice, 10-month position for the Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) program beginning fall 2022. An earned doctorate in Counselor Education, Counseling Psychology or a closely related field is required.

The successful candidates should demonstrate the experience or ability to teach courses in the following content areas: Research and Evaluation, Evaluation & Treatment of Addictions, Psychological Assessment, and/or Career & College Counseling.

The CMHC courses are taught in the evening after 4:00 pm. As a NTT, open ended, Assistant Professor of Practice, you will be responsible for providing formal classroom instruction in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program with primary duties being effective delivery of instructional material and course management (e.g., assessments, grading, etc.), advising and mentoring of graduate students, and involvement in programmatic tasks.

Primary Responsibilities:

The NTT faculty would teach a 12-credit/contact hours per semester during the academic year in addition to advising and mentoring students and completing programmatic tasks which would meet the required typically four course sections per semester. Courses taught during the 6-week Summer I session may be counted within overall teaching load during the academic year.

Qualifications

The candidate should meet the following qualifications:

(a) An earned doctorate (Ph.D., Psy.D. or Ed.D.) in Counseling, Counselor Education, Counseling Psychology or a related doctoral degree is required,

(b) at least 1 year of experience teaching (preferably graduate courses),

(c) experience in clinical supervision and training,

(d) and demonstrated commitment to infusing multicultural content and social justice principles in curriculum and training are highly preferred.

It is preferred that the candidate is license eligible or holds licensure as a mental health counselor and/or a psychologist in the state of Massachusetts, in the New England region, or transferrable to the area with a minimum of 3 years of clinical practice experience in the field.

About the Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) program  

The Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) program meets the growing demand for mental health counseling in a number of different settings, including outpatient centers, hospitals, colleges, human resource departments, substance abuse treatment centers, non-profits, and government agencies. The CMHC program enables students to fulfill the education and degree requirements to apply for the designation of Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and other geographic locations. Aligned with the mission of Merrimack College, the program emphasizes the development of professionals who are committed to the delivery of quality care to culturally diverse clients and families, using strength-based approaches. The program’s structure demonstrates the commitment to social justice and community engagement. The CMHC program is an evening program wherein currently all classes are taught after 4:00 pm.
