Position Overview & Responsibilities

The Academic Success Center at Merrimack College is hiring two success coaches for its Success Coaching Program. Success Coaches will be primarily working with first-year students. This professional position will focus on 1:1 coaching of students with the goal of increasing the success in and outside of the classroom. While a main focus on the role will be on fostering academic success, Coaches will also offer foundational level support for career development, wellness, mental health first aid, and the social adjustment to college.

Success Coaches are responsible for acting as an academic coach for a caseload of students. The Coach will also teach a section of a 1-credit First Year Experience course in the fall semester, and a section of a one-credit support or leadership course in the spring semester and cultivate relationships with staff and faculty partners. They may supervise a graduate fellow and undergraduate peer leaders. Coaches will be a part of the larger Success Center team and as such will assist with the coordination of projects, workshops and participate in activities that forward the Academic Success Center’s mission of serving students so as to increase their success. By working directly with students and collaborating with all relevant members of the college community, Coaches will be a key component of a holistically-designed approach to student success.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree

  • Experience in some form of academic, social or wellness coaching to students enrolled in college level courses, students with learning disabilities, mental health concerns, or are under prepared academically.

  • The successful candidate will be creative and interested in direct success coaching of college students and of continuing the ongoing development of ASC programs.

  • We are particularly interested in candidates who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds.

  • Candidates will possess knowledge of best practices regarding study skills, time management, academic engagement, and have experience coordinating and connecting students to a variety of support services.

  • Cultural competence and ability to support students from historically underrepresented and underserved communities

  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion as relevant to academic success.

This is a one year position with the possibility of an additional one year renewal.

The position requires a commitment to and experience with diversity, equity, and inclusion, preferably in a higher education setting, cultural competency, and ability to relate to and to communicate effectively with students, staff, and faculty, representing diverse identities, communities and experiences

Unless otherwise stated above, this is an on-campus position. This is not a remote or hybrid position as employees are essential in order to provide a fully on-campus, residential college experience for our students and the community.
