What is a Wellness Peer Educator? 
Who can be a Wellness Peer Educator? 

To serve as a peer educator, it is required to:

  • Be in your second year (sophomore) or later. First-year students that are interested may apply in the Spring semester of their first year.
  • Be in good academic standing with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher;
  • Possess strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills;
  • Be a role model for responsible and healthy lifestyle choices;
  • Be enthusiastic about educating peers on wellness issues;
  • Work as part of a team and independently (“be a self-starter”);
  • Demonstrate a keen ability for working one-on-one and with groups of peers.

Previous student leadership, peer education, event planning and/or health education-related experience is helpful, but not mandatory.

What are the expectations and responsibilities of a Wellness Peer Educator? 

Peer educators serve as an extension of the professional staff of the Office of Wellness Education. Peer educators are expected to act as exemplary role models for all students, by abiding by all College policies and local/state laws, maintaining good academic standing, and making positive healthy life choices. Peer educators must represent the College and themselves in an appropriate manner in all communication, and must exhibit a high level of maturity and professionalism.  

The responsibilities of the peer educators include the following:

  • Work collaboratively with Wellness Education staff to create and implement a strategic plan for the Warriors’ Wellness Peer Education program;
  • Participate in weekly meetings;
  • Facilitate Stress Management workshop as well as other Peer Education programming;
  • Actively promote the Warriors’ Wellness Peer Education program (outreach, postering, flyering, Facebook, Twitter, etc.)
  • Conduct outreach to increase the scope of Peer Education programming;
  • Serve as a wellness information resource for peers and provide informal referrals for students to on-campus resources which may assist them;
  • Seek out opportunities to work collaboratively with student organizations and other departments;
  • Participate in training and continuing education opportunities, as identified/assigned;
  • Other duties as determined and assigned as the program evolves.‌
