What is it?
As a member of the Merrimack community, you have access to TurnItIn, “the leading originality checking and plagiarism prevention service used by millions of students and faculty, and thousands of institutions worldwide. TurnItIin encourages best practices for using and citing other people’s written material. The service offers a complete web-based service to manage the process of submitting and tracking papers electronically, providing better—and faster—feedback to students.”
How do I get started?
First, contact CETL Director Kathryn Nielsen at firstname.lastname@example.org to get your Merrimack access code and password. Following this, you will be able to create your own login. The Merrimack code may also be shared with your students.
To help get you started, here are two quick training videos, one for instructors and one for students:
You can access TurnItIn through Blackboard, the TurnItIn website TurnItIn.com and the mobile app, which is free to download from the mobile app store.
What else can I do with it?
There are many additional resources located on the TurnItIn site that may be of interest to you and your students. Among them, pilot users noted that the use of voice memos and several of the feedback/response tools increased work flow efficiency for instructors and provided increased clarity for students.
