Remote Accommodations and Academic Support FAQ

Can I have my intake meeting virtually over the summer?

Yes! Until further notice, all intake meetings will be held virtually. Once you select a meeting on the calendar link you’ve been emailed, we will send you a Zoom link 24 hours before your scheduled intake meeting. 

If my class is being held in a remote setting, can I still get my accommodations?

Yes! Students can access their Accommodations and an Academic Success Coach in a remote or in-person setting. Your accommodations may look a little bit different. We would be happy to help you with technology to support your accommodations both in class and testing. Here are some tips for remote accommodations:

How will my instructors know that I have accommodations and get my accommodation letters?

You can log in to our remote software to request your Accommodation Plan Letters. We will then send it as a PDF to your Merrimack email and you can forward the letter to your professors. You are always welcome to cc’ us on that email and we are happy to be a resource for support.

Can I meet with an Academic Success Coach or keep meeting with my current coach?

Yes! If you already have an Academic Success coach, you can reach them directly by email. If you have never met with a coach but would like to talk with someone, just email us at and a coach will reach out to you. As the college determines what is in-person, we will determine with you individually whether we meet in person or via Zoom. 

How do my testing accommodations work if my class meets remotely?

If you already have emailed your instructors an Accommodation Plan Letter, then you can log in to our remote software to submit testing requests. After you submit a Testing Center request, we will alert your instructors of your exam information and accommodations. Most of the time, the extended time accommodation will then be arranged by the professor on the testing software. Other testing accommodations do not always need ASO assistance in the remote environment. For example, students will find a low distraction testing setting and already use technology. We can make sure you have an Academic Success Coach to help you individually. Email our office if you have not connected with an Academic Success Coach yet and we will reach out to you.

The Writing CenterTutoring & Math Center, and Study Partners will continue to provide tutorial services, now in an online synchronous format. In addition, the Academic Success Center is currently connecting with all subject tutors to ensure remote tutoring capability. An updated schedule will be listed shortly and adjustments will be made to the Campuswide Tutoring Calendar. Please visit for information on how to access all tutoring services. 

I’m a faculty member, how can I make sure my students get their remote accommodations?

Students with accommodations are expected to email you a copy of their Accommodation Plan Letters. While we will assist students with understanding their accommodations, we are also available as a resource to you around accommodations both remote and in person.

We are also encouraging students to continue to utilize the Accommodate software to request their testing accommodations. We will continue to forward these requests to you as we receive them. We have found it helpful to support both students and faculty with remote accommodations.

  • Merrimack College provides reasonable accommodations for students with documented disabilities. Students who have, or think they may have, a disability are invited to contact the Accessibility Services Office via the online request form found on the Accessibility Services, email or by visiting us on the third floor of McQuade Library (in the event we are open).
  • Students are encouraged to contact the office as soon as possible to ensure adequate time to meet and create a plan. Students already registered with Accessibility Services are encouraged semesterly to request for their letters to be emailed and students are responsible to then email the PDF to their instructors personally. Accommodations can not be made retroactively. 


We are available to assist students with questions about documentation guidelines. We also provide coaching support for students with ongoing academic and organizational needs. Our Testing Center arranges for students to use their approved accommodations for exams outside of the classroom - and now remotely during this time.

2020 All Abilities Awareness Events

The 4th Annual All Abilities Awareness Week, titled “#diversability” was hosted by The Accessibility Services Office and McQuade Library to engage members of the Merrimack College community in building awareness of disability, diversity, access, and inclusion.
