Student Zoom Accounts
Merrimack is using Zoom to help us transition from in-person teaching to remote learning as we adjust to COVID-19 and its profound impact on our lives.
About Zoom
Merrimack has increased its video conferencing capabilities with the purchase of Zoom Enterprise. Zoom will help us facilitate remote and virtual teaching/learning, as well as run virtual meetings for departments, student groups, athletic teams and more.
As a Merrimack student, Zoom will allow you to engage in remote learning and stay connected with the campus and your classmates and groups. You will be able to:
-
Join in one-on-one meetings with your faculty, advisors, residence life staff, coaches and classmates
-
Participate in virtual tutoring with the Math Center or the Writing Center
-
Hold student group meetings including clubs and organizations, such as student government
-
Schedule academic success coaching
-
Set up meetings with different offices around the campus such as the O’Brien Center for Career Development and student activities
The possibilities are endless and this is a powerful way to keep you connected to your faculty, friends and the campus while learning from a distance during this difficult time.
How to Create Your Zoom Account
You will receive an email directly to your Merrimack Gmail account from the Zoom platform. Once you receive the email, please follow these steps:
-
In the email you receive from Zoom, click “Activate your Account.”
-
In the next window, click “Activate your Zoom account with Google,” as your account has already been created for you by the College IT department and is ready for activation.
-
Make sure to select your Merrimack College Gmail address. If it does not show in the list, click “Use another account” and sign into Google with your Merrimack credentials.
-
Enter your Merrimack email and password to log in. You will be instantly transferred to your Meetings page. With these Zoom accounts, you can use your smartphone, iPad, laptop or desktop computer.
Do Not Use Your Personal Zoom Account
Even if you have an existing Zoom account, we strongly encourage you to use the College’s enterprise version because doing so will eliminate the risk of conflicting versions between your Merrimack Zoom account and your personal Zoom account if you have one. Additionally, your Merrimack Zoom account has enhanced features and benefits (i.e. unlimited meeting time and increased number of participants per meeting) not available on the personal version.

What is Zoombombing?
Zoombombing is a new form of trolling in which an unwanted or unwelcome participant uses Zoom’s screensharing feature to interrupt and disrupt meetings and classes. Please visit our Zoombombing Resources page for more information.
