The Financial Capability Center works with adult clients from our various nonprofit partners as well as high school students from Lawrence High School. The center provides one-on-one coaching sessions to help identify and achieve clients’ self-selected financial goals. The one-on-one coaching allows our clients to have individualized time with the coaches to focus on specific personal financial goals. Spanish translators are also available for one-on-one meetings. For a breakdown of participation, see our FinCap by the Numbers report.
Workshops and Clinics
Financial capability workshops are taught in both English and Spanish one Thursday per month during the semester. Through the student-and faculty-led workshops, clients learn about visualizing and setting goals; maximizing income; managing expenses and budgeting; saving and borrowing; and protecting their money. At the end of the workshops, the clients and coaches get to celebrate their success at a graduation ceremony.
Merrimack student coaches offer on-campus peer coaching to fellow Merrimack students, at the center, and to the local community, at Hands to Help, 301 Haverhill St., Lawrence, Massachusetts.
Beginning in February, the center partners with Hands to Help in Lawrence to provide free tax assistance to individuals and families of the Lawrence community. Check back for 2019 dates and times.
