Meet the Associate Dean
Julie Fitzmaurice is an Associate Professor in the Marketing Department. She earned a B.A. in mathematics from Brandeis University, an M.B.A. from Georgetown University, an M.A. in Operations Research/Management Science from Yale University, and a Ph.D. in business (with a concentration in marketing) from the University of Connecticut. Julie worked as a Research Associate at Harvard Business School before joining Merrimack College in 2002.
Julie has taught marketing strategy, consumer behavior, and business statistics in the undergraduate program and the graduate level marketing class in the Master of Science in Management program.
Julie’s research is in the area of consumer behavior and examines what motivates consumers to take action. She has investigated this in various contexts (e.g., beginning an exercise program, purchasing wine produced by vineyards adopting sustainable growing practices, and splurging on a purchase). In addition, in her research she’s investigated how materialists are different from non-materialists and is extending her research into the area of generosity. Her research has been published in journals including Journal of Marketing Theory and Practice and Psychology & Marketing.
Since 2011, she has served as Associate Dean. In this role, she works with the Dean to support the mission and vision of the Girard School of Business and Merrimack College. She works closely with faculty and staff to improve the student experience and provide leadership on curriculum development at the undergraduate and graduate level.
