Meet the Dean
Dr. Mark Cordano has been Dean of the Girard School of Business at Merrimack College since 2011. In the classroom at Merrimack he has taught strategic management in the Masters of Management program. Prior to Merrimack, Mark was at Ithaca College for nine years where he served as Dean of the School of Business, Chair of the Management Department, and taught strategic management, organizational behavior, and environmental sustainability in the graduate and undergraduate programs. While serving as Dean of Ithaca College Mark successfully led the school through its maintenance of accreditation by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). Prior to joining Ithaca College, Mark taught environmental sustainability and strategic management at Wright State University in their graduate and undergraduate programs.
He holds a B.A. in psychology from Cornell University, an M.B.A. in management and public policy from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business, and a Ph.D. in strategy from the University of Pittsburgh’s Katz Graduate School of Business. Mark has been an active scholar and is consistently cited for his research about environmental attitudes and decision making, environmental topics in management education, and attitudes about women managers found in journals such as the Academy of Management Journal, Business Strategy and the Environment, the Journal of Business Ethics, the Journal of Environmental Education, Women in Management Review, the Journal of Management Education, Environment and Behavior, and the Journal of Wine Research. He has made numerous presentations at the annual meetings of the Academy of Management and the International Association for Business and Society. From 2003 through 2006, he was elected Program Chair and Division Chair of the Organizations and the Natural Environment Division of the Academy of Management.
Prior to his academic career, Mark was a member of the Executive Development Program at Chemical Bank in New York City holding a series of managerial positions in banking operations.
