Writers’ Circle
Our Writers’ Circle is a student-led, open-genre writing workshop. Whether you’re a poetry buff, a fiction writer, or an avid journaler, there’s a place at the table for you. We begin with prompt-based freewriting for 20-30 minutes, and then students are free to share their work, while giving and receiving constructive feedback. No Shelf Control is a student-led book club focused on great books from every genre and time period. We meet bi-weekly and discuss chapters of our voted-on books. Slam Poetry
The Slam Poetry Team is a weekly meeting group that allows poets and writers to take their creations to the spoken-word stage. This group is currently non-competitive, which allows aspiring poets to begin at the absolute basic level of slam within a welcoming and engaging environment. Join at any point in the semester! Jail Education Project Teaching Assistantship in Creative Writing
The Jail Education Project Teaching Assistantship in Creative Writing is an experiential learning opportunity for students interested in working with incarcerated students in our community. Teaching Assistantships will work with professor Emma Duffy-Comparone’s creative writing classes at the Essex or Middlesex County jails. Typical duties include: attending class, staffing the computer lab, offering students one-on-one writing help, running writing workshops, and editing the end-of-semester anthology of student work.
