Degree Requirements You Can Put into Practice

Featuring a combination of dynamic coursework and applied experience, our curriculum will provide you with the ideal mix of theoretical knowledge and applied ministry experience so that you emerge ready to practice in your chosen field.

Our Spirituality programs offer four tracks based on your professional goals and interests:

  • Master of Arts in Spirituality, with 32 credit hours that include courses in Christian spirituality and social justice, a seminar in the Spiritual Life, guided research, and an optional practicum in Spiritual Direction
  • Master of Arts in Spiritual Direction, with 32 credit hours that include courses in Christian spirituality and social justice, a seminar in the Spiritual Life, and a practicum in Spiritual Direction
  • Certificate in Spiritual Direction, with 20 credit hours that include core courses in Christian spirituality and social justice, a seminar in the Spiritual Life and a practicum in Spiritual Direction
  • Certificate in Interfaith Spirituality, with 16 credit hours that include core courses in Christian spirituality and social justice, a seminar in the Spiritual Life and a four-credit independent research project

To enhance your learning, program courses are taught by expert faculty who bring decades of religious scholarship and real-world experience to each discussion. Through core courses in spirituality, our Seminar in the Spiritual Life, and hands-on practicum experience, you’ll be immersed in the analytical study of religion and spirituality while developing the basic skills needed to lead yourself and others in a spiritual life.

When you emerge with your Master of Arts or Certificate in Spirituality from Merrimack, you’ll be prepared to reference spiritual traditions across history and cultures, and relate spiritual practice to modern life. You’ll also develop empathetic listening, counseling, and spiritual direction skills needed to engage in spiritual work.
