The Nutrition and Human Performance 3+2 Major

Merrimack’s Nutrition and Human Performance Dual Degree program prepares you to become a registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN) in just five years, equipping you to take on today’s nutrition challenges.

What You'll Study

Clock in 1,000 hours of supervised experiential learning that’s integrated across the curriculum in a professional work setting with additional alternative experiential learning experiences such as simulation activities embedded into specific courses.

You’ll have the opportunity to work with Merrimack College’s Division I athletes as well as with other DI athletes within the New England region.

How Does It Work?

  1. Complete three and a half years of prerequisite courses (general education requirements, prerequisite and foundational program knowledge) before the spring semester of your fourth year and graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Nutritional Sciences.
  2. Advance directly into the Master of Science in Nutrition and Human Performance where you’ll get a head start on graduate coursework and hands-on experience.
  3. Study in a collaborative cohort model with other students taking similar classes and working together to finish your degree.
  4. Graduate and move quickly into the workplace with the competitive advantage of a master’s degree.

Nutrition and Human Performance Courses You'll Take

Careers in
health science

HSC 1000

Students will learn the educational requirements, academic performance and credentials needed. Students will also explore the day-to-day responsibilities of different professions, the traits that make an individual suited to the profession and more.

Human
Pathophysiology

HSC 3336

The individual organ systems, their diseases, diagnosis and treatments are considered in a systemic manner, with emphasis on conditions important to community health. This course builds upon the principles and foundations of prerequisite courses.

Advanced
human nutrition

HSC 3540

Study the biochemical, physiological and metabolic aspects of nutrition and therapeutic diet. Students will learn methods of human nutritional assessment, including dietary, anthropometric, biochemical and clinical assessment procedures.

Direct Entry Master's Program - Tuition & Aid

As a full-time student enrolled ​in a Merrimack College Direct Entry Master’s Program, you will be charged undergraduate tuition and receive your undergraduate scholarship for the duration of the program. ​For the undergraduate portion of the program​, you may also be eligible for undergraduate, federal and state aid, if you qualify and file a ​FAFSA for each year​.
 
Once you have completed the undergraduate portion of your program, and you transition to the graduate portion, you will no longer qualify for undergraduate, federal ​and state aid. However, if you continue to file the FAF​SA, you will qualify for a graduate federal aid, which is the ​Federal Direct ​Unsubsidized ​Loan up to an annual​ maximum of $20,500.
