Minor in Nutrition
Diversify your academic career with a topic that has the potential to impact both individuals and communities.
The Nutrition Minor
Learn how human nutrition, chronic disease prevention and population health effects our daily life. Merrimack’s minor offers a multidisciplinary perspective on food and culture exploring areas such as the politics of food, the impact of modern agriculture on the environment and health behavior and promotion.
Interested in a variety of careers where health, wellness and environmental sustainability are a focus? This minor is for you! Plan to tailor your academic experience with multidisciplinary topics, allowing you to be well positioned for high-demand employment opportunities post graduation.
This minor is perfect for diving deeper into the topic of nutrition while majoring in another subject. You’ll understand the socioeconomic, behavioral, biological, environmental and other factors that impact human health and contribute to health disparities.
Skills You'll Learn
Plan to understand the fundamentals of protein, carbohydrate, fat, vitamin and mineral requirements and metabolism as a basis for the study of the relationship between diet and health in both a personal and global perspective.
You’ll learn all about the impact that human nutrition and industrial agriculture have on environmental quality, food resources and energy consumption.
A minor in Nutrition requires 20 credits (5 courses). Each course is 4 credits. For the Nutrition minor, no more than two courses or eight credits from another major or minor may count towards completion of the minor; these include both requirements and electives (including interdisciplinary electives) for the major.
