There are many ways for faculty and staff to engage with The Merrimack College Honors Program.
Nominate a Student to Join the Honors Program
Faculty are invited to nominate current first year students to join the Merrimack College Honors Program. Faculty are simply asked to send an email to email@example.com stating the student’s name. The Honors Program will then obtain the student’s GPA and extend an invitation to students who meet the 3.7 GPA requirement. The Rising Sophomore Admit program is announced at the beginning of the spring semester.
Honors Program Committee
The Honors Program Committee (HPC) serves in an advisory capacity to the Merrimack College Honors Program.
Teaching in Merrimack Honors Program
Faculty from across the campus are engaged in teaching honors courses. Learn about the guidelines for creating a honors course.
Honors students (sophomores and beyond) are required to petition to the Honors Program Committee for Honors recognition for a specially designed contract of a non-honors course (“the Honors Contract”). The Honors contract is developed by the student in consultation with the course instructor, and must clearly reflect at least one of the pedagogical goals of the Honors Program – i.e. , Learning Community, Active Learning, and Transformative Experiences.
Students must attend a mandatory workshop held within the first two weeks of the semester outlining the requirements for Honors contracts. Interested faculty are also invited. Proposals are reviewed by the HPC. Students are normally limited to one Honors component during their time in the Honors Program.
