IMCSIJ features interdisciplinary work, integrating knowledge, methods, and modes of thinking drawn from two or more disciplines.  Submissions can include scholarship, research, and creative work.  To be eligible for publication, all submissions must be from by a student or students at Merrimack, graduate or undergraduate and all must be mentored by a Merrimack faculty member. Two or more Merrimack students may co-author a single submission. Abstracts accompanying written submissions should include an explanation of how the work is interdisciplinary.  If the submission is a creative work (poetry, fiction, photograph, painting), there must be a 750-1500 word written statement suitable for publication that explains the interdisciplinary context of the work.

A Complete Manuscript submission includes the following:

  • Cover letter (Cover letter guidelines in separate attachment)
  •  Short biography for each author (50-150 words)
  • Abstract (150 words)
  • Manuscript (1500-4000 words)
  • Works Cited (No limit but separate from the Manuscript Word Count)
  • Faculty advisor release form
  • Student release form
  • Publication-ready photographs, figures and tables throughout the manuscript (as needed)

A Complete Creative submission includes the following:

  • Cover letter (Cover letter guidelines in separate attachment)
  •  Short biography for each artist (50-150 words)
  • Artist statement explaining the interdisciplinary of the work (approximately 750 – 1500 words)
  • Works Cited (No limit but separate from the Statement Word Count)
  • Faculty advisor release form
  • Student release form
  • Publication-ready artwork, figures and tables throughout the manuscript

 

Format of all submissions

Please submit the following as SEPERATE attachments

  1. Cover Letter (submit in .doc format titled “CoverLetter_yourname”)
  1. Short bio (submit in .doc format titled “Shortbio_yourname”)
  2. Artist Statement or Manuscript (submit in .doc format titled “Manuscript_yourname”)
  3. Abstract (submit in .doc format titled “Abstract_yourname”)
  4. Faculty advisor release form  (submit in .pdf format titled “AdvisorRelease_yourname”)
  5. Student release form (submit in .pdf format titled “StudentRelease_yourname”)

* IMCSIJ reserves the right to reject manuscripts not submitted in the above-mentioned formats by the established submission deadline.

Review Process

All written manuscripts will be submitted through Turnitin as part of the peer-review process. Each manuscript will be reviewed anonymously by 1-2 qualified student reviewers and one faculty reviewer. After each manuscript is reviewed, the author(s) will receive email confirmation of whether the manuscript was accepted or rejected or returned with a request to revise and resubmit.  Accepted manuscripts as well as those given a revise and resubmit judgment will be returned to the author(s) with comments/edits via track changes. The author(s) will be expected to make revisions by a stated date and return the revised manuscript to IMCISJ editors for layout design.
