Philosophy

Philosophy Minors

Students in any field of study may choose among a minor in general philosophy, political philosophy, ethics or philosophy of science. The various minor programs require a minimum of five courses distributed as follows:

Minor in General Philosophy

The minor in general philosophy requires a minimum of 18 credits taken over a minimum of five courses.

Required Course
  • PHL1000: Introduction to Philosophy
Elective Courses
  • One course in Ethics
  • One course in History of Philosophy
  • One course in Metaphysics or Epistemology
  • One Philosophy elective

Minor in Political Philosophy

The minor in political philosophy requires a minimum of 18 credits taken over a minimum of five courses.

Required Courses
  • PHL1000: Introduction to Philosophy
  • PHL 2040: Introduction to Political Philosophy
Electives (choose two)
  • PHL 2500: Theories of Justice
  • PHL 3010: Human Rights: Theory and Practice
  • PHL 3020: Philosophy of Law
  • PHL 3030: Global Justice

Minor in Ethics

The minor in ethics requires a minimum of 18 credits taken over a minimum of five courses.

Required Course
  • PHL1000: Introduction to Philosophy

  • Four additional courses in Ethics

Minor in Philosophy of Science

The minor in philosophy of science requires a minimum of 18 credits taken over a minimum of five courses.
