Merrimack College Moot Court

Participating in Moot Court will enhance your ability to think on your feet and improve your oral advocacy, analytical and critical-thinking skills.

These are all skills you’ll need in law school, other graduate study and your professional career.

Moot Court also lets you practice doing what lawyers do in court. In teams of two, you will argue constitutional issues in a hypothetical case as though the case were on appeal to the Supreme Court. You will make the case whether the lower appellate court’s analysis of the law was correct or incorrect.

The hypothetical case has already been decided by a trial court and the case is on appeal to determine whether the lower courts’ analysis and application of the law was correct. You will read and analyze selected Supreme Court decisions on the issue and use these cases in your arguments.

You may take Moot Court twice for credit toward a political science major (four credits maximum).
