We encourage our students to attend conferences, join professional organizations, and apply for scholarships. There are a number of opportunities available to students of diverse backgrounds to support their success!
Diversity in STEM
Hosted by the Society for the Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science, this is a conference for students and scientists at all levels. Travel scholarships are available.
Hosted by Out for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math, this is a conference for LGBTQ+ students and allies. This conference includes a career fair and other professional development opportunities. Travel discounts are available.
Out for Undergraduate Engineering Conference
Hosted by O4U, this is one of a series of conferences with an engineering focus that provides LGBTQ+ students with professional development opportunities and a career fair. Full travel scholarships are available to many students who apply.
American Indian Science and Engineering Society
Dedicated to increasing the representation of the indigenous people of North America in STEM fields. This organization offers national conferences, scholarships, pre-college and college programs, as well as internship opportunities for members.
National Society of Black Engineers
Student-run organization that supports and promotes the aspirations of collegiate and pre-collegiate students and technical professionals in engineering and technology. NSBE offers national conferences, scholarships, internship opportunities exclusively for members, and pre-college support including camps for high school students.
Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers
Founded to support Asian heritage science and engineering professionals, the organization was designed with the National Society of Black Engineers, the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers and the Society of Women Engineers. SASE provides professionals and college students with professional development, scholarships and regional and national conferences.
Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers
Created to promote Hispanic professionals in engineering from K-12 through professional. SHPE provides professional-development opportunities, such as conferences and scholarships for members.
Society of Women Engineers
Dedicated to increasing representation of and supporting women in engineering at the collegiate and professional level. This organization provides the opportunity to attend national conferences, post student resumes to a database for internship opportunities, and many other professional-development experiences. Merrimack College has an SWE chapter on campus.
