How Merrimack's Co-Op Program Works

You'll Be Assigned a Faculty Champion

When you participate in Warriors at Work, your program will have a Faculty Champion who is dedicated to:

  • Preparing you for your co-op job responsibilities
  • Guiding you to find appropriate placement in positions that align with your career goals
  • Ensuring that your intended learning experience and objectives are met.

You'll Engage in a Number of Warriors at Work Activities

In the first two years of the Warriors at Work program, you’ll participate in activities to help you develop the skills and relationships you need to succeed. Activities include:

  • First Year Seminar
  • “First Summer” employment
  • Mentoring opportunities with upper class students and young alumni
  • Service learning and civic engagement opportunities,
  • Faculty-led research projects and internships
  • Trips to visit and explore industry facilities and work environments 

You'll Plan Your Co-op Experiences

  • You should plan for your co-op experience during the fall or spring semesters of your junior year or fall of your senior year.
  • Typical calendar placements will schedule a position from July-December or January-June. During this academic year, you will enroll in winter and summer courses to stay “on track” to graduate in four years.

You'll Follow a Four-Year Road Map

Freshman Year

Start off strong during your freshman year at Merrimack in your first-year experiential/co-op seminar which prepares you to participate in your paid, summer pre-co-op placement.

Match with your mentor (young alumni/upper-class student) and participate in a group service learning experience.

Sophomore Year

Dive deeper through internships, group immersion trips (domestic or study abroad), unique opportunities to network and build mentorship connections.

Participate in group site visits to local organizations and benefit from the cohort-based Professional Development Retreat (PDR).

Junior Year

Grow your skills at your co-op site over six months with a premier employer partner and support from your faculty/advisor/champion through regular check-ins.

Get networking opportunities with top executives, continue mentorship meetings and complete the co-op reflection course.

Senior Year

In your final year, prepare for life post-graduation by bringing all of your experiences from your co-op together into a polished and well-reviewed resume.

Showcase your hard and soft skills at Merrimack alumni events and industry partner get togethers to allow for exclusive job searching.
