Position Overview

Provides leadership and direction for the frontline services of McQuade Library. This position is responsible for the oversight of library service desk activities, including circulation, course reserves, interlibrary loan services, and billing. Plays a key role in fostering an inclusive, welcoming environment for library users, serves as initial library contact to users to assist in determining information needs and provides appropriate department referrals as necessary.

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead and manage the operation of Library Services Help Desk which includes overseeing daily circulation functions. Coordinates work schedules to ensure adequate desk staffing during 24/5 hours of operation.

  • Hires, schedules, supervises, evaluates and trains approximately 10 student assistants and 4 Library Assistants in access services policies and customer service.

  • Manages all aspects of Interlibrary loan and document delivery including requesting, obtaining, and fulfilling items for members of the college community and providing items to other participating institutions while maintaining copyright compliance.

  • Oversees the processing of course reserve materials and works with faculty in complying with the library copyright policy for the ethical and legal use of materials.

  • Provides specialized research consultations and reference for McQuade Library users.

  • Develops, recommends, and administers policies, procedures, and processes in support of Access Services unit operations in collaboration with Head Librarian.

  • Serves as primary liaison to subject areas faculty and users; identifies, meets, and facilitates ongoing communication about resources needs and service expectations.

  • Represents the library at NOBLE meetings on access-services related issues, and attends workshops and meetings as needed for professional development.

  • Collects, analyzes, and reports statistical data related to collection use and service desk transactions; Makes data-driven recommendations for improvements in policies and services.

  • Perform similar or related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Library & Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution.

  • Minimum of two years of library experience with supervisory duties, preferably in Access Services (circulation).

  • Working knowledge of integrated library systems and technology.

  • Expertise using resource sharing software.

  • Record of successful interaction with faculty, students, staff, and administrators in an institution of higher education.

  • Experience implementing application of new technologies for user services

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to effectively collaborate with faculty, students, and staff.

  • User-centered approach, a willingness to adapt to the changing needs of library users.

  • Strong interpersonal skills as a team member of Instruction/Liaison team in outreach, relationship-building, and collaboration with faculty.

  • Strong time management, organizational, and project planning skills.

  • Technology proficiency with demonstrated aptitude for learning new software and systems. Ability to incorporate new technologies and innovations into existing operations. Working knowledge of Google Suite, and Apple products.
