Position Overview & Responsibilities
Merrimack College seeks a Communications Specialist to join the Central Communications team to assist with the coordination and production of communications projects. Reporting to the Director of Creative Services and Social Media, this individual will help develop a variety of print and digital content to be delivered across multiple platforms to internal and external audiences. The Communications Specialist will work collaboratively with the communications team, faculty, staff and students across Merrimack College to ensure messaging aligns with the College’s vision, brand standards and efforts around the College’s strategic plan, the Agenda for the Future.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assist with the planning and design of content for a variety of communications mediums, channels and platforms, such as web, newsletters, emails, social media, digital screens, etc.

  • Help maintain, coordinate and contribute to a content calendar and ensure timely execution of those projects.

  • Maintain the Rise digital screens across the campus as a messaging platform.

  • Work with Communications to approve designs created in Canva, ensuring branding guidelines are met.

  • Assist in identifying/securing/gathering copy, photos, video content for design/production pieces.

  • Work with campus partners to maintain email lists for a variety of audiences.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with departments across the institutions, including Office of the Provost, Office of Student Involvement, and the Office of Development and Alumni Relations.

  • Respond to feedback, adjust communications content accordingly.

  • Support processes in place for collecting feedback and requests from departments related to projects and messaging.

  • Collaborate with marketing and communications staff members centrally and across Merrimack as needed to provide a unified communications approach delivered across multiple platforms.

  • Assist with invoices and purchase orders, working within the Communications team budget.

  • Other duties as requested.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years of marketing experience, preferably within a higher education environment.

  • BA/BS degree in marketing, communications or related field required.

  • Deep familiarity with design, digital marketing, experience with diverse platforms (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, WordPress), and social media (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) and best practices.

  • Creativity and a good eye for design.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders of all levels.

  • Strong project management skills, with experience managing and prioritizing multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Eagerness to learn and work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
