Position Overview
The Department of Exercise and Rehabilitation Sciences in the School of Nursing & Health Sciences is seeking an outstanding and highly motivated faculty member to join their team starting in Academic Year 2023-24. We are searching for a faculty scholar who is committed to excellence in teaching, with interest and experience to become the Program Director of the MS degree program—which has a strength and conditioning concentration—and engage in providing service to the School and college community.

Position Summary
The School of Nursing & Health Sciences at Merrimack College is seeking an outstanding and highly motivated full-time faculty member to join the Department of Exercise and Rehabilitation Sciences in the Fall of 2023. Applications for a tenure-track (Assistant Professor) or non-tenure
track (Assistant Clinical Professor) 9-month faculty position and Program Director in Exercise Science are now being requested. The Program Director responsibilities span across 12-months.

We are seeking a dynamic, outstanding, faculty member who is committed to excellent teaching; participating in service at all levels; and, will provide leadership as Program Director of the Master of Science degree in Exercise and Sport Sciences which has a strength and conditioning concentration (Education Recognized Program of the NSCA). The ability to develop and establish a productive line of research is required for a tenure-track appointment.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in their area of expertise
  • Advise and mentor undergraduate and/or graduate students
  • Participate in service to the department, school, college and professional community
  • Lead strategic recruitment and growth initiatives and retention of graduate students
  • Operational management of the program’s graduate fellowship program
  • Establish a productive line of research with strong potential for extramural funding if seeking a tenure-track position


Qualifications

Candidates should have a doctoral degree in Exercise Science or a closely related field for a tenure-track appointment. For non-tenure-track appointment candidates, a Master of Science degree in Exercise Science or closely related field will be considered. Current credential from
the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA); Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS); or the American College of Sports Medicine Certified Exercise Physiologist® (ACSM-EP) is preferred. University/College teaching experience is preferred. A minimum of 10 years of work experience in the exercise sciences field for applicants with a Master of Science degree. Experience teaching undergraduate and/or graduate students in the areas of exercise physiology and/or strength and conditioning is preferred. Strong verbal/written communication skills are essential. Additionally, the ability to foster an environment that values diversity, equity and inclusion is expected of all Merrimack community members.
