Position Overview
Reporting to the Director of Transfer Admission & Enrollment Services, the Senior Assistant Director of Transfer Admission & Enrollment Services will share responsibility for meeting institutional enrollment goals and serve as an advisor to prospective students and their families, both transfer and off-cycle freshmen. They will serve as front-line contact for parents and students through the matriculation cycle to support successful enrollment and retention.
The Sr. Assistant Director of Transfer Admission & Enrollment Services will be a generalist and a specialist in enrollment areas including admission, orientation, financial aid, transfer credits and curriculum, and billing. They will provide exceptional customer services and build students’ and family members’ affinity to Merrimack. They will regularly staff outreach campaigns utilizing multiple communication channels to identify and navigate any barriers to enrollment and matriculation, present information sessions and participate in admission events. During peak recruitment season especially, the Sr. Assistant Director may be called upon to support the recruitment team. This person will also contribute to the development and implementation of recruitment plans for prospective transfer students. They will lead transfer credit evaluation and systems maintenance for new students in Merrimack’s undergraduate programs.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute recruitment plan and budget for all transfer student recruitment events with a focus on primary, secondary and tertiary market community colleges and previous first-time freshmen applicants.
- Provide exceptional customer service by establishing channels of communication with prospective students to introduce them to and inform them of Merrimack College; facilitate their relationship with the institution throughout the admission process starting at the inquiry stage through their enrollment at the college.
- They will demonstrate exceptional communication, interpersonal, and multicultural skills. They will have the ability to establish and develop and foster long-term professional relationships, both on and off-campus.
- They will use data and market research to make informed decisions, while also exhibiting the ability to take initiative and solve problems.
- As a member of the Admission team, the Senior Assistant Director is expected to actively participate in the myriad of on and off-campus activities designed to recruit, admit, and enroll an entering class that meets institutional goals.
- Represent Merrimack College to prospective students and their families by attending off campus recruitment events, which include college fairs/tabling events and individual visits at community colleges, in addition to conducting on-campus transfer events for students, families, and transfer advisors.
- Counsel and advise prospective students, their families, transfer advisors and other community members about the transfer admission process, transfer credit options, course selection at non-Merrimack institutions and effectively communicate Merrimack’s value proposition.
- Work with advising center staff and faculty to coordinate new student advising meetings and course registration.
- Assist in the maintenance and quality control of student records, transfer policies and transfer credit records in Slate, manage day-to-day credit coordination in TES, and transfer credit review process for transfer and first-year student in collaboration with the office of the registrar and faculty.
- Participate and represent Merrimack College through meetings, presenting group information sessions and active participation in signature programming such as Open Houses, Admitted Student Days, Shadow Days, Orientation.
- In addition, this person must have the ability to work well independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, target driven environment. The willingness and ability to travel extended periods, and work extended hours including evenings and weekends is required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred.
- Valid U.S. driving license required.
- 3-5 years of professional experience, preferably in recruitment, sales, or admission.
- Strong commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and cross-cultural competence.
- Self-starter with a positive attitude, proactive mindset, and strong work ethic.
- Effective time management and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize among competing tasks and pay close attention to detail while working in a deadline-driven, fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated ability to problem solve, make decisions quickly, and approach challenges creatively and independently.
- Willingness to learn and utilize the latest technology in enrollment planning, including experience with a customer relationship management (CRM) system.
- Experience providing top-notch customer service.
- Excellent verbal, written, and public speaking communication skills.
