MC graduate brings degree, skills back to his hometown

Frank Gomez earned a degree in psychology with a minor in Spanish from Merrimack in 2013, and within a few months of graduation was hired by the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children in Lawrence, Mass.

Gomez is continuing his professional climb with plans to start graduate school this year, working toward a master’s degree in psychology.

He’s proud of earning his Merrimack degree and returning to his hometown to help the community. Gomez attended Lawrence International High School, where he took part in the Accept the Challenge program, Merrimack’s former collaborative program with the Lawrence School Department.

MSPCC assigned him to its Lawrence office to offer therapeutic work with local families.

“I do in-home therapy and I go into people’s homes and provide therapy there for people who don’t have transportation, or it’s just easier to go to them,” Gomez said.

He has aspirations of helping a wider spectrum of people.

“I want to be a family therapist,” he said. “That’s what I’m working on right now.”

He plans to keep his normal work hours while taking classes, and will even be able to serve his school-required internship at MSPCC.

“I will be working and I will be going to grad school,” he said. “(School) works for me because my schedule is flexible, because it’s by appointment.
