Merrimack College to Host Groundbreaking Ceremony for Athletic District Project Friday, June 9
President Christopher E. Hopey, Ph.D., and the Merrimack College Board of Trustees extend an open invitation to partake in the ceremony and barbecue that will follow, as the College celebrates the next milestone of the Agenda for Distinction. The Groundbreaking is also an important step forward in the College’s historic capital Campaign, Together for Good, which has raised more than $38 million to date.
The Athletic District Project will transform the facilities for Merrimack’s varsity, club and intramural sports. Among the highlights are:
- Construction of a new multi-sport stadium for football, men’s and women’s lacrosse, field hockey, and men’s and women’s track & field that includes a synthetic turf surface and an eight-lane, 400-meter track that will surround the field and feature bleacher seating for over 2,500 spectators.
- Expansion and renovation of Martone-Mejail Field for softball and men’s and women’s soccer. The current synthetic surface will be replaced and upgraded, and a corner of the field will be expanded for the softball program and will include permanent dugouts, a new backstop, bullpens and a batting cage.
- Enhancements to the current baseball facility to include drainage, irrigation, a rebuilt field and team amenities.
