Early Action Applicant Scripting His Future at Merrimack

Ryan Giggey has known since he was a young boy that he wants to attend Merrimack College.

Today, he’s an 18-year-old senior at Central Catholic High School in Lawrence, Massachusetts and as an Early Action applicant, he’s one of the first members of Merrimack’s Class of ’22.

The Andover, Massachusetts resident is so comfortable on campus that he didn’t even apply to other colleges for acceptance.

“Ever since I was little, it seemed Merrimack would be the right fit for me, when it came time to pick a college,” Giggey said.

His parents Lauren and Paul graduated from Merrimack in 1991 and his grandmother Rose Shamberger is the records administrator for the Office of Development and Alumni Relations. His parents were business majors, but Giggey plans to study computer science.

Throughout high school, Giggey immersed himself in extracurricular activities. He served on the school’s theater guild executive board, working on sound, lighting, video, and even on-line ticketing for various shows. During his senior year, he’s gone out of his way to mentor younger schoolmates to ensure they can carry on his work when he leaves for Merrimack.

Giggey’s family lives close to Merrimack, but he plans to live on campus to enjoy the full college experience of living in dorms, attending football and hockey games, and taking part in service-learning trips.

“I really want to participate in all those events,” he said. “Being here every day surrounded by friends is something I’m really looking forward to. I want to get involved in every aspect of this diverse community.”
