Merrimack Alumnus Charlie Day Tells the Class of 2020 to “Come Out Swinging”

“It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia” star Charlie Day '98, H'14, sent a congratulatory message to Merrimack College's Class of 2020 encouraging them to persevere during these challenging times.

Hollywood actor Charlie Day ’98, H’14, wants Merrimack’s Class of 2020 to know he’s thinking about them. In true Warrior fashion, Day sent a personal message to graduates telling them to keep their heads high and stay strong as they finished an unprecedented semester affected by the coronavirus.

Using his unique gift for marrying poignant words with humor, the “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” star wants the newest members of Merrimack’s alumni community to know that things will get better even if it means they have to “hunker down” at the moment.

This is not the first time Day has bestowed wisdom upon his fellow Warriors. When he delivered the keynote address at the College’s 64th undergraduate Commencement ceremony in 2014, he told graduates to, “do what’s uncomfortable and scary and hard, but pays off in the long run.” He had no way of knowing, of course, just how relevant these words would be today.
