Symphony Premiere Performance

Associate Professor of Music Dr. Laure Pruett’s edition of Louis Moreau Gottschalk’s symphony Á Montevideo had its premiere performance.

For the past several years Dr. Laura Moore Pruett, associate professor of Music in the Department of Visual and Performing Arts at Merrimack College, has been working on a new critical edition of the two symphonies by the New Orleans-born pianist-composer Louis Moreau Gottschalk (1829-69). The research and editing project is finally bearing fruit. Her edition of his second symphony, Á Montevideo, had its premiere performance on Sunday, November 24, 2019, by the Reading Symphony Orchestra, conducted by George Ogata.
